You might not know exactly what you’re ordering, but that’s half the fun. The same goes for timing your visits to when locals live their lives. Tuesday morning markets, late afternoon aperitivo hours, and neighborhood festivals are where you’ll see the real rhythm of a city.
When in doubt, ask better questions. Instead of “Where should I go?” try “Where would you take your best friend?” You’ll get answers that never make it into guidebooks. Small venues also hold big magic. A hidden wine bar with eight seats or a family-run boutique hotel can offer more connection than the biggest, most luxurious resort.
And finally, consider seeing a place through a local’s lens. A well-connected guide can introduce you to artisans, neighborhood legends, and culinary gems you’d never find on your own.
