There are very few phrases that make me wince faster than, “We’ll figure it out when we get there.”
I know. It sounds carefree. Adventurous, even.
In reality, it often translates to spending precious vacation time solving problems that could have been avoided entirely.
Now before the spontaneous travelers come for me, let me be clear. I am not advocating for a color-coded itinerary with every minute accounted for. Some of the best travel moments happen when you stumble upon a hidden wine bar in Tuscany, discover a charming side street in Kyoto, or decide on a whim to spend an extra hour watching the sunset.
Those moments are magical because they happen within the framework of a well-planned trip.
The truth is that vacation time is more valuable than ever. Between demanding careers, kids’ schedules, aging parents, and the general chaos of adult life, most of us get a limited number of opportunities each year to truly disconnect and explore.
Do you really want to spend that time standing in a two-hour line for tickets that could have been reserved months ago? Or scrambling to find dinner reservations in a destination where every sought-after restaurant is fully booked?
Probably not.
The best trips strike a balance between preparation and flexibility.
The accommodations are thoughtfully selected. Transportation is coordinated. The experiences that would genuinely disappoint you to miss are secured in advance. Then, and only then, is there room to wander, discover, and embrace the unexpected.
This is one of the biggest misconceptions about working with a travel advisor. My goal is not to create a rigid schedule. My goal is to eliminate the stress, research, and logistical headaches that can quietly drain the joy from a vacation.
When the important details are handled, you gain something far more valuable than a detailed itinerary.
You gain freedom.
Freedom to be present with your family. Freedom to linger over a long lunch. Freedom to say yes to an unexpected opportunity because the foundation of your trip is already in place.
If you’ve ever returned from a vacation thinking, “That was wonderful, but I wish someone had helped us avoid a few headaches,” we should talk.
And if you wholeheartedly agree that “we’ll figure it out when we get there” is better as a backup plan than a primary strategy, I’d love to help you design your next adventure. Schedule a complimentary consultation, and let’s create a trip that feels effortless, intentional, and uniquely yours.
